Ordnance Survey to rationalise 700,000 folders with TOWER Software

Geographic information specialist orders TRIM Context electronic document and records management (EDRM) system

Wokingham, Berkshire – August 13, 2007 – TOWER Software today announces that geographic information specialist, Ordnance Survey has selected its EDRM system, TRIM Context to rationalise the 700,000 folders of documents and mapping files in its shared corporate network. The project has already commenced and is being rolled out to approximately 1500 users department by department.

An EDRM system was specified by the organisation in order to improve the availability of business information to staff as well as its organisational efficiency. Ordnance Survey also aims to tighten version control and rationalise its current information, while meeting regulatory requirements such as those detailed in e-Gov, the Public Records Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the Modernising Government white paper.

Tony Sumpster, Managing Director for TOWER Software EMEA adds, ”Our Professional Services team has been heavily involved with the technical design, configuration, load planning and testing of the system at Ordnance Survey. Their project team, quite rightly, is placing a lot of emphasis on the transfer of skills between our team and theirs. So, the technical people at Ordnance Survey have undergone a very high level of training.”

Jan Hutchinson, Director of HR and Corporate Services and business sponsor to the EDRM system at Ordnance Survey explains, “In making our business case for the system, we were able to identify areas where significant cost savings can be made. Time might be a major factor, as searching for specific documents without a system like TRIM Context can be an extremely lengthy process. Just as important as this though, is the positive impact we can have on customer service with the right information readily available to the right people, when they need it. This brings us much closer to our corporate efficiency goals and will enable sharper business decisions.”
