TRIM Desktop

Document authors want to work within their authoring applications and open and save documents in the most unobtrusive way possible.  TRIM Desktop provides an interface between the authoring applications on the desktop and the TRIM Context 6 ECM repository. Documents can be opened, edited and saved without any extra steps imposed on the author because the check-out and check-in processes have been completely automated.

Opening a document

When the author clicks the open button in their integrated desktop application TRIM Desktop presents them with their most recently used documents.  To open a document for editing, the author just double clicks on it.  In the background TRIM Desktop will automatically check the document out of the repository for the author's exclusive editing use.  Other users will still be able to read the document, but cannot edit it at the same time. This ensures that there is always only one authoritative revision of any document.

Saving a document

When the author has finished editing the document, they simply save and close it.  TRIM Desktop will automatically transfer a new revision into the repository and make the document available for editing by other users.

When a document is saved for the first time the author can enter some informative metadata to a profile to put the document into its proper enterprise content management context.

Working Online - Working Offline

TRIM Desktop allows authors to work in online and in offline mode. Working online means that the author has access to all enterprise content that is stored in TRIM Context 6. When working online the author can add a document to their TRIM Desktop Offline Records area, which then makes it available for editing regardless whether a connection to the repository exists or not. When an author works disconnected from the enterprise network, they can save any changed or new documents to the Offline Records area from where they are easily transferred into the TRIM Context 6 ECM repository as soon as a connection is available again.
